It has been a bit of a strange Spring around here, but a good kind of strange. It seems we've had rain at least once a week this year -- and those have been good drenching rains, not little sprinkles. The water district, local gardeners, the trees and I are very happy about the fact that we are 6.4 inches ahead of normal rainfall for the season, which doesn't end until June 30.
Aside from making up for the past couple of near drought years, all this rain has meant a bumper crop of roses around here. And there is no better time to catch them at there dewy best than after a rain such as we had yesterday.
Most of these roses (except for the top right coral beauty) are in my neighbor Ren's yard at the HAtS (House Across the Street). She even gave me a few of her yellows to add to my own floppy pink and sturdy orange roses for this garden flower bouquet.
I'd rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck.

Well, hmmmmmmm. I for one, have to "think" a little more on that quote, as I could do with a couple of fat diamonds right now. BUT if that meant that there would be no roses on my table......
And, yes, we know we love that Ren, her roses, (as well as her whole little family!), but oh, that soup!
Ms Moon - Yes, it is like having the municipal rose garden right across the street. I am a lot shadier on this side, so I don't get half the bloom time HAtS gets. Walking through Ren's garden is a great supplement.
LC - Well, I figure, how many more diamonds are we gonna get, anyway? It is better to be happy in our lot of having the company and solace of roses on the table, non?

Oh my heck, I don't even CARE for roses and those are beautiful. The white ones on the fence almost made me swoon.

Oooohhh...I LOVE that fence and gate draped in divine flowering madness. I want one like that!
P.S. Doggie is fine now. Cat's face has healed (he has some cool scars to show his friends now.)
Grasshopper - That is a Sally Holmes antique climbing rose. There are five bushes across that fence and it is held high on hoops made from the switches trimmed from pollarded elm trees in the spring. Good effect on what used to be a ho hum fence, non?
Gives me thoughts of painting such beautful pictures. Will work at getting it transposed. Now how to work in the smell is the trick.
